As an Indian australia who was raised in Brisbane and then Canberra, I always loved watching the Melbourne cup. No one in my family or circle has ever attended this event before including myself. I recently moved to Melbourne and wanted to take part in this event in my own style. Growing up on TV I rarely saw people who looked like me attending the cup. I always imagined how it might be to attend one day and be amidst the bustle and excitement. I never found clothes that allowed me to be Indian and Australian at the same time. I wanted to bring a mix of both my cultures to the field and showcase fabrics and accessories that tell a rich story of where I come from and also making it race day appropriate. The cup is a celebration. And My outfit is also a celebration of diversity and multiculturalism in Australia.
Outfit
My outfit is a modern take on a typical outfit worn by men at the races in India. The material is a rich and royal purple and gold brocade paying homage to the Indian Saree.pants are called "jodhpurs" worn by polo players for comfort.
Shoes
My own - royal purple to match the look and the colour of royalty - the original race goers
Millinery
I have chosen this Gregory ladner ( my own purchase) in the gold gemstone to tie the look together and symbolically wear a tiara in gold which would be worn by a queen with her saree at the races.
Accessories
Queen Bee ring , Gold Clutch, Champagne gold earrings and an indian style belt
