Millinery Competition 2022
Australia, VIC
ROSE BUD I am so proud to present my entry Rose Bud for the VRC Myer Fashions on the Field 2022 Millinery Competition. ——————— My name is Possum Ball and I have been working as a full time milliner since 2015 under my label Possum Ball Millinery. My Grandmother was a milliner, so I like to think millinery runs in my blood! All my pieces are designed and made by me in my Williamstown studio. I have an extensive wooden block collection and each piece I make is lovingly blocked before being hand stitched with the utmost of patience, care, love and hopefully a sense of fun! My work has featured on numerous catwalks, magazines and Fashions on the Fields events around Australia and I’ve had the thrill of having one of my pieces walk a Parisian catwalk! Possum Ball Millinery has made an appearance at the late Queen’s Garden Party at Buckingham Palace! It was my absolute honour to be part of Melbourne Fashion Week last year, with my work featuring in the “Boldy Different” exhitions. I’ve also had my designs displayed at the Governor of Victoria’s annual Cup Eve Function held at Government House in Melbourne each year. One of my favourite collaborations to date has been with Ooroo Australia. Featuring award winning textiles from Aboriginal artists and talented emerging Australian indigenous textile designers, my millinery pieces made with their art work help to showcase and highlight stories that need to be told. In 2019 and 2020 I was President of the Millinery Association of Australia, a role which saw me responsible for the leadership, direction and coordination of responsibilities for the association. The Hat Shop is a yearly feature in my home town of Williamstown and I am delighted to be one of the four in-house milliners in residence. I throughly enjoy working in collaboration with three other fabulous Melbourne milliners. Over the yearsI have been invited to judge millinery at the prestigious Millinery Design Award hosted by Millinery Australia, as well as judging millinery at, the Royal Melbourne Show. I’ve also been invited to be a guest judge at the yearly MLC Mother’s Luncheon, the Echuca Cup and I am a regular guest speaker at the Royal Victorian Motor Yacht Club’s annual spring luncheon. My wish when creating my pieces is that my clients have as much fun wearing them as I have creating them! Life is too short not to have fun!
