The Little Planter Hat My inspiration for this design award piece came from a shopping trip into the Sydney CBD. Whilst wondering through the homewares section of H&M I noticed a little mustard colored plant pot and all I could see was the shape of a bucket hat. Upon closer inspection, and turning the pot upside down, I instantly fell in love with it and set about a plan to make it into a fabulous little Audrey Hepburn style bucket hat. By placing the pot upside down on top of an IKEA Lazy Susan, the shape came to life. I love the way it came together as a stylish and attractive shape by using unconventional millinery blocking shapes. Millinery Materials Used: Rattan sisal straw - hand dyed black, then sprayed with heavy gloss varnish for a super shiny patent effect. Crown is blocked on an H&M Planter Pot (on sale for $15) Brim is blocked on an IKEA Lazy Susan ($20) Embellishment is black feather quills and hand cut nagoire feather flowers, hand painted with gold paint and glitter Black plaited paglina braid
